Incorporated in 1953, the Town of Indian River Shores has relatively clean beaches and controlled growth.  The town lies along the northern boundary of the City of Vero Beach on the barrier island.  It is mostly comprised of low density single-family homes and gated communities.  The centerpiece community in Indian River Shores is John's Island.  John's Island is described as a privileged paradise.  It stretches from the beaches to the Indian River Lagoon and contains many live oaks and other species found in natural maritime hammocks.

The beach access is located 0.25 mile from the community center.  Upon finding a suitable turtle, we will walk as a group down to the beach access.  And, here's the best news.  Nesting in this part of the county is relatively high with around 200 nests per kilometer each year so there is a good chance of encountering a turtle.  Click below for additional details and directions.

Allow yourself to go on a small trek, let your eyes adjust to the night and get ready to witness something spectacular.
